OUR GUiDE TO FRAMING!

Here at EDiT. Gallery we take great pride in framing not just the artwork we sell but anything that you bring into us. Whether you want to keep things clean and simple, or really get creative with the process, we can assist you every step of the way. In this article, we will explain the options you have when framing with us and what you can expect from the process!

What can we frame?

We work with very skilled craftsmen to ensure the best possible framing, but we aren’t picky about what goes in!

  • Prints
  • Originals
  • Photographs
  • Memorabilia (e.g. football shirts)
  • Coin collections
  • Certificates
  • Medals
  • Canvas stretching

Something else completely - We love a challenge!

Our Greenwich picture framing service provides prompt and professional support to help you quickly pair the best frames with your cherished artwork. Of course, we can also deliver all over the UK.

Deciding how best to frame your beloved artwork can be challenging. Our expert team will discuss all the options with you and make recommendations to give you the desired outcome.

As London framers, we understand the importance of the convenience of being local. Why not use the form on this page to schedule a visit or email us at hiya@editart.co.uk. Our team will then contact you to discuss your project at a time that works best for you.

Framing a piece of artwork can take it to the next level. Framing enhances and elevates work, as well as protecting it, so you have something wonderful that is ready to hang in your home.

We offer many different ways of framing here at EDiT. Gallery. We have moulding’s of every colour, shape and design, and if there is anything super specific you have in mind dont be shy - we love a challenge!

All our framing is reversible, and our archival standards make sure that anything going into one of our frames will be safe there for as long as you need it to be.

We custom make each frame, which ensures we tailor our services to your exact needs. Whether you want to foreground the work and have the frame disappear, or for the framing to become part of the visual experience, we see the process as a collaboration - something we can have fun with and enjoy!

When you visit EDiT. Gallery for a framing consultation, we take the time to talk through different possibilities and play around with options. We take great pleasure in framing pieces of work to match your vision, and also have suggestions of our own if you need a little guidance towards the perfect end result!

Once framing decisions have been made, everything gets taken to our workshop. Here the incredible team of highly skilled framers work to make sure we get you the framing of your dreams. The turnaround time for framing is 5-6 weeks, so make sure to book in early to avoid last minute panic!

It can be helpful when customers can bring ideas or have a particular style in mind but if you don't, that's fine! Sometimes, it's easier to make a decision when you are walking through options with a professional.

When you come in for a consultation we will run through all the framing options, but if you want to be aware of what we can offer (or you are like us and just love this technical stuff), we’ve run through the basics of what we can do below:

Mounting:

  • Edge to Edge, Back of Frame:

A classic poster frame. The piece is set to the back of the frame and directly into the corners. There is no border.

  • Edge to Edge, Front of frame:

A classic poster frame. The piece is set to the front of the frame and directly into the corners. There is no border.

  • Shallow mount:

The piece is mounted either front or back of the frame, directly onto the mount board with a border of your choosing.

  • Floated forwards:

Our most popular framing style, the piece is mounted with archival mounting tissue onto a foam board lift. This is then mounted onto the mat backing. This mounting style gives the piece elevation and creates the illusion that the work is really floating inside the frame.

  • Window mount:

A timeless style, the window mount works by sitting the piece behind the mount board, creating a window effect. Window mount can be set to the front or back of the frame.

  • Dry mount:

Have a piece that won’t sit flat or is really damaged? Dry mounting works by bonding a print to a mount with heat. The dry mounted piece can then be mounted however you might like. The process of bonding is irreversible but the framing will always be archival and reversible meaning you can take the bonded print out and reframe if you wish to.

  • Mount boards:

Our extensive collection of mount boards features a diverse array of colours, textures, and thicknesses to suit your needs. In your framing consultation we will provide personalised guidance in selecting the ideal mount board for your project.

Moulding options:

We have a vast range of moulding options on show in the gallery, from classic raw woods, to the most elaborate golds. Our mouldings can also be stained or painted to your exact specifications using expert wood staining techniques or Farrow and Ball paints.

Glass type:

Depending on what you are framing and where you are hanging it, different glass types might suit your needs.

  • Standard Glass: 50% UV protection, no anti reflective qualities

  • Conservation Glass: 100% UV protection, no anti reflective qualities

  • ART Glass: 70% UV protection, anti reflective

  • Museum Glass:100% UV protection, anti reflective

Fillet colours:

Fancy making your framing pop a little more? Add coloured fillets free of charge. These strips of colour run along the inside of the frame and make a piece even more unique.

Pricing:

All of our framing is custom made for your artwork so pricing varies. The best way to get an idea is to email us at hiya@edit.co.uk with the dimensions of your piece and we will get a starting quote out to you 🙂
